During Tucker Mountain Town Forest’s first year, 2019, 80 enthusiastic volunteers have helped cut saplings to reveal old stone walls, clear views of the White Mountains, and reclaim a large section of meadowland.
They’ve removed invasive honeysuckle, created a walking trail and scouted potential new trails, picked up trash, created and managed a Facebook page, and built and installed two kiosks. Intrepid bush whackers have walked the and marked the boundaries. Many of the 80 are repeat volunteers and have come to multiple volunteer events.
Also in 2019, 16 members of the Newbury Elementary School staff made the Town Forest their community service project. Oxbow, too, sent 12 students and a teacher to volunteer for community service. The R & R Family Trust brought 17 of their group to work up to four days. They helped build and install the two kiosks and provided funds for kiosk materials.
